pacs.008 (FI-to-FI Credit Transfer)

pacs.008 is the ISO 20022 interbank message that carries a customer credit transfer between financial institutions — the bank-to-bank leg of what a customer initiates with a pain.001 file.

Where it sits in the flow

When your ERP submits a pain.001 credit transfer, the debtor bank converts it into a pacs.008 to move the funds through the clearing infrastructure to the creditor bank. The message preserves the end-to-end identification chain — EndToEndId and the UETR (Unique End-to-End Transaction Reference) that lets corporates track a payment across institutions like a parcel.

Compared with the legacy MT103 it replaces, pacs.008 carries fully structured party data — names, addresses, LEIs, structured remittance — which improves sanctions screening, reduces manual repair, and feeds richer data into camt.053 statements downstream.

Why you will meet it

Most businesses never generate pacs.008 themselves — banks do — but you will increasingly receive it in payment status reports, investigation responses, and enriched statements. Understanding its structure helps when reconciling or debugging payment flows, which is what our ISO 20022 viewer decodes.
