Stellar (Network)
Stellar is an open-source layer-1 blockchain optimized for payments and asset issuance — fast finality, low fees, a built-in decentralized exchange, and an anchor model connecting fiat currencies to on-chain assets.
How it works
Stellar reaches consensus through the Stellar Consensus Protocol — federated Byzantine agreement where nodes choose which other nodes to trust, giving ~5-second finality without mining. Issued assets represent fiat or other value; anchors are the licensed on/off-ramps connecting bank money to tokens (standardized by SEP-24 for deposits and withdrawals), and trustlines express which assets an account accepts.
Soroban, Stellar’s smart-contracts platform, adds WASM-based contracts for programmable payments and DeFi logic on top of the asset layer.
Why we build on it
Stellar’s focus on financial inclusion and low-cost settlement aligns with our payments work: Mozart Pay uses Stellar with Circle USDC/EURC for cross-border payments, EduNode runs on it, and our open-source Stellar Go CLI gives developers wallets, payments, DIDs/verifiable credentials, and ISO 20022 reporting in one toolkit. We are active in the ecosystem — including Meridian, its annual conference, and SDG-impact measurement work using the ISO/DPAS 24874 KPI catalogue.
